Still Tender is a series of work that holds dissolving memories and ideas about life and love. The veracity of these tender stories make them impossible to visualize so they exist like an energy - a weight we carry around. When I paint, the layers begin to respond to each other, and the tug of a memory will present itself. When the trace of something familiar appears on the surface such as a figure, object or place, I tend to it over time. By sinking fully into my process of concealing, protecting and revealing, a sacred space is created and the passage of time feels altered.

When I am working, incessant thinking inevitably lures me out of the present moment. I am fascinated by these prosaic patterns of thought and distraction, and the subtle semi-conscious cycles of reflection and speculation that foster both the inspiration and material of my practice. My work holds a visual record of this process– the quiet, reflexive, sometimes playful refrain of noticing, thinking and making. An essential part of my art practice involves creating and working within spaces of transience and ambiguity, where thoughts, ideas, and forms can remain contingent and unfixed. And where the slight pause between an inhale and an exhale does not go unnoticed.

I want my art to feel open, inviting and somehow familiar. To evoke a sense of intrigue about what is hidden, what stories live between the layers, or what waits just beneath the light and shadow of the surface.
