by the Throbbing Rose Collective

August 6 - 16
Opening Reception: Thursday, August 7, 5 - 8 pm
Symposium: August 8 - 10

This installment of Wild Waysides, a series of exhibitions and symposiums addressing ideas and provocations of queer ecologies, features a selection of the artworks created in response to Queer Up North, an artist residency held in Temagami, August 2024.

What does it mean to be natural—and who belongs in the landscape?

Wild Waysides: Queer Ecology and the New Natural brings together 2SLGBTQ+ artists and researchers exploring radical intersections of queerness, ecology, and creative practice. Curated by Pearl Van Geest and James Fowler, the exhibition features multisensory installations, field recordings, performance documentation, and visual artworks that reimagine nature through a queer lens. The project challenges binaries, decolonizes landscapes, and amplifies alternative ways of knowing.

The Throbbing Rose Collective is a grassroots community art collective celebrating excellence in queer writing, performance, music, and visual art. Its volunteer membership includes visual artists, music and theatre performers, curators, writers, educators, and arts workers and producers who recognize the importance of promoting queer arts locally, nationally and internationally through regular arts programming.
