Red Dot Show 2010 - The Elements, is a year-in-review exhibition that provides a snapshot of the current work produced by Red Head artists featured in solo shows over the year. It is an opportunity to see, at one time, the diversity and ambition of work produced by these artists. Guest curator, Gil McElroy, in the introductory paragraph of his curatorial essay, The Elements, writes, "A dot denotes a point (even–or maybe, especially–a red one). The dot can represent something fundamental, something elemental and basic. Something essential. From the dot–from the real-world likeness of a point–all things begin. Like a singularity of nothingness from whence the Big Bang and our fourteen billion year-old universes came. Like how we articulate aspects of said universe.

McElroy also draws on the ʻdotʼ as seen by Greek mathematician Euclid in his book The Elements. It begins with “a point is that which has no part”, and from that dot-like elemental singularity Euclid wove the structure of an immense mathematical cosmology still with us today. From point to line to plane, McElroy has assembled a cross-section of challenging and exciting artworks for the Red Dot Show 2010.
