Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder
by guest artist Adil Amin

July 29 - August 1, 2026

Opening Reception: Wednesday, July 29, 6-8 pm.

As we move through life, we also navigate through an array of relationships; none of which ever truly stay the same. Some fade away, some break, and others are pressed with distance and time.

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder is an exhibition reminiscing the times that once were. The longing for people and places that are beyond our reach whether through circumstance or the nature of life. Amin’s new series of paintings are of his father in a hospital bed from his last visit to England in January 2026. These works sit in contrast to his portraits made soon after his move to Canada. Simultaneously evoking feelings of nostalgia and gratefulness for one’s current being.

Amin intends the viewer to reflect upon their own relationships and appreciate what they once had and what they have now; not only once it’s gone. It is often the most mundane moments that shape our core memories.
